Am I eligible for a Pines library card?
If you are a resident of Georgia, you are eligible to receive a free PINES library card, patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian and proof of residence. Visit one of the PINES participating public libraries for additional information.

Can I fax from the library?
No, the Hall County Library does not allow public faxing. You can send public faxes from some local grocery stores and office supply stores. 
Can I leave my children here while I go run errands?
Children under the age of eleven must be in the care of a responsible caretaker. Caretakers must be at least 15 years old, stay with the younger child, and manage their behavior according to the library’s Public Conduct Policy. Children age 11 and older may also require adult supervision if they are unable follow the library’s Public Conduct Policy independently.
Can I pay my Library fines with a debit or credit card?
Yes, the Library is accepting credit and debit card payments for fines/fees in all our branches and online.

Can I renew my books online?
Yes, here is how you do it:

  1. Go to http://gapines.org
  2. Click "My Account"
  3. Follow the instructions to enter your library card number and password.
  4. Once you log in you will be able to see your items and renew them.
Do I need to have a PayPal account to use PayPal?
A PayPal account is not required.

Yes! Click here to stream or download eBooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, music, and movies.

A note about Kindle...

Our eBooks do not work on the Kindle Paperwhite or the older Kindle Fire models.
Do you offer Mac (Apple) public access computers?
Yes, in the computer lab and Teen area at the Gainesville Branch either PC or Mac computers are available for public use. In our Spout Springs Branch Macs are available in our teen area.
Does your library have a cafe?
Not at this time.

GALILEO, an acronym for Georgia Library Learning Online, is an initiative of the University System of Georgia and serves as the state's virtual library.

GALILEO provides access to multiple information resources such as scholarly journals, books, encyclopedias,ancestry information and business directories including secured access to licensed products.

Note: Public Library users can access many of GALILEO's resources at home through remote password access. Request a password.

How can I apply for a job at the library?
The Hall County Library System only accepts job applications online and only when a job opening has been posted. From our website's home page click Contact Us / Job Application.
How do I become a friend of the library?
Membership in Friends of the Hall County Library System is open to all persons interested in the library system. 

Go to our Become a Member page, or visit any library branch for details.
How long can I keep items?
Items can be borrowed for 2 weeks initially and can be extended for additional 4 weeks, if the item has not been requested by someone else.
How much does it cost to print?
  1. Letter size (8.5 x 11") print jobs are $.20 per page. Copies are also $.20 per page.
  2. Legal size (8.5 x 14") print jobs are $.30 per page.
  3. Tabloid/ledger size (11 x 17") print jobs are $.40 per page.
How to Print from Our Computers
  1. Prepare your document and select PRINT.  
  2. Enter your library card number with no spaces, or your temporary Guest Pass User ID. Enter your PIN. Select OK to approve.
  3. Walk to the desk next to the printer. Use the mouse to click on the click here screen.
  4. Enter your library card number with no spaces, or your temporary Guest Pass User ID. Enter your PIN.
  5. Your list of print jobs will all be selected by default. Select only those you wish to print. Click the Print box in the upper left corner of the screen.
  6. Select the first payment option: Pay with Vending Device.
  7. Deposit coins in the box next to the printer. 
Prints are .20 per side. The coin box will accept nickels, dimes, quarters and half-dollars as well as one dollar and five dollar bills.  NO PENNIES. 

Please limit each print job to 25 pages.

Printed documents are not stored in memory and we are unable to retrieve or reprint anything once the print job is complete.

Every Saturday  10am-5pm (Gainesville, Branch Blackshear Place, and Spout Springs Only)

What happens if I leave my children at the library past closing hours?
The library encourages frequent visits by children and their families. However, library staff cannot provide childcare or assume responsibility for children’s safety. If the library is closing at a regular time or in an emergency situation and a parent or guardian of a child under age 18 cannot be located in the building, the police department will be called to ensure the safety of the child.
What is Pines?
A program of the Georgia Public Library Service, Georgia Library PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) is the public library automation and lending network for more than 275 libraries and affiliated service outlets in almost 140 counties.

PINES creates a statewide "borderless library" that provides equal access to information for all Georgians. Georgians with a PINES library card have access to materials beyond what is available on their local shelves and enjoy the benefits of a shared collection of 9.6 million books and other materials that can be delivered to their home library free of charge.

Wireless Internet Access and Printing
If you have a wireless-enabled laptop, you can access the Internet at all HCLS branches. When you use the Internet in the library, you are accepting the library's Internet and Computer Use Policy. Please take the time to read the policy before accessing the network.

NOTE: Library staff cannot assist you with your device, wireless card, or configuration. We cannot accept the liability of handling your equipment.
Zoo Atlanta Library Pass
The Zoo Atlanta Library Pass is a popular item at HCLS locations, even with limited availability. The Zoo Atlanta Library Pass  provides free admission for up to four family members (children 2 and under enter the zoo for free). 

One pass is available for checkout at each participating branch and may be checked out once per year, per household.

  • Check out the Zoo Atlanta Library Pass DVD at your local Hall County Library branch. (No self-checkout; DVD must be checked out by the library staff.) When you return the DVD to your library, you will receive a receipt. Please save this receipt; it is required for Zoo admission.
  • Present your Zoo Atlanta Library Pass Receipt and your Library Card at the Zoo Atlanta front gate for admission.
  • Patrons have four weeks from the time of receiving the DVD/Pass receipt to redeem it at the Zoo.
  • Pass is valid for up to three guests; standard general admission will apply beyond three guests. The pass is valid for general admission only and may not be used for fee-based events or programs. Not valid with any other discount, offer or promotion; may not be redeemed for cash.
  • Valid Sunday - Saturday; BLACKOUT DATES APPLY
  • If the DVD is lost or damaged, a $30 replacement fee will be charged by the library system. Overdue fines will be charged for late returns.
