Spout Springs Branch Groundbreaking Held

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Spout Springs Branch was held on December 12 and was a huge success. Approximately 100 people from throughout the community attended the event.  The ceremony began when Master of Ceremonies and Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver greeted guests and recognized dignitaries. Father Fred Wendel from the Prince of Peace Catholic Church gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Remarks were then made by Library Director Adrian Mixson, who recognized the contributions of the Library Board, Hall County Commission, and local legislative delegation. Commissioner Deborah Lynn, who was instrumental in seeing the facility become a reality, then spoke to the group. Representative James Mills gave final remarks. Rep. Mills and his church also donated a Bible to the new facility, the library's first official book donation. Rep. Mills presented an oversized check representing state funding for the building project to the Commission and library system. Ground was then broken by the Hall County Commission, local legislators, and library board members.

Honored guests who assisted with breaking ground included Theresa Anderson, Library Board member and Building Committee Chair; Adrian Mixson, Library Director; Steve Roe of Newland Communities; Diane Hirling, Mayor of Flowery Branch; Tom Oliver, Hall County Commission Chairman; Cynthia Rucker, Library Board Vice-Chair; Billy Powell, Hall County Commission; Rep. James Mills; Senator Lee Hawkins; Deborah Lynn, Hall County Commission; Bernice Cox, Library Board Chair; Ruth Bruner, Library Board member; Tracy Vardeman, Library Board member; Wayne Colston, Library Board member; J.C. Smith, Library Board member; Judy Mecum, Library Board member; and Valerie Noble, Library Board member.

The Director’s Corner

Dear Friend,

I always wonder where time goes. Sometimes is just seems to disappear like some socks in a washer. Sometimes you hurry home in the afternoon so you can have a few extra minutes to do whatever only to discover after the evening meal it is time for bed and you did not get it done. New Year’s resolutions always leave me scratching my head since it seems the next New Year’s has arrived and I still have not got around to implementing the resolutions I made the year before. I kept putting them off because I had plenty of time. I once read a cute inscription scribbled on a wall that said time was just God’s way to make sure everything did not happen all at the same time. I remember reading this at the time and saying time was just his way to really help me put things off - and I have thanked him for it many times.

I have really just been beating around the bush. I have been putting off – there goes that time again – reminding you that you are the Friends and need to stop putting off the time you plan to help the organization. I join organizations and figure my membership, and maybe a special cash gift, is all that is needed. Well, this is not so. The Friends need you. They need your helpful hands, creative minds and desire to see the county have a superb library system. They need more then just your cash contributions.

If you are interested in doing a little work to help the library improve please contact the Friends of the Library’s President Bernice Cox. She can be reached anytime through the library at friends@hallcountylibrary.org

Now is the time to stop letting time slip through your hands and do something by helping the Friends help you. After all, as a library user you stand to gain the most.

Hope to catch you reading.

Adrian Mixson
