Library Staff
Honored
For their service to the
Hall
County community, three
Hall County Library System staff members recently received recognition from the
Georgia Library Association.
Vonda Henderson, a library
assistant in the Youth Services department, is this year's recipient of GLA's Hubbard Scholarship. This award is granted to one
Georgia library employee who is
enrolled in a Master's of Library Science program. Ms. Henderson is currently
attending the University of Alabama's MLIS program. She hopes to
graduate in 2007 and continue working with children in a public library
setting.
Two other library staff
members were recognized for their commitment and hard work by being named
Paraprofessionals of the Year. Dawn
Dale currently serves as Circulation Manager for the library
system, managing daily operations of her department, supervising staff, dealing
with library accounts, and overseeing the library's circulation system and
policies. Kathy Evans, Branch
Manager of the East Hall Branch and Special Needs Library, was recognized for
her work in bringing reading materials and providing other library services to
the disabled population in Hall County.
Hall Reads Together
2006 Successful
Hall Reads Together is a
"One Book One Community" effort during which the Hall County Library System
hosted events designed to promote reading as a fun and meaningful part of
everyday life, and to promote Hall County as a literate community. For the third year, Hall Reads Together
2006 has done just that. During
September 18th - 23rd, students and adults were introduced to the Wild West
through Tony Crunk's Railroad John and the Red Rock
Run, illustrated by Michael Austin.
Gail Karwoski shared her historical book Quake!
which describes the aftermath of the San Francisco earthquake of
1906. Local school students were
entertained by presentations of highlights from both books, and during the main
event, all participants were treated to Michael Austin's on site creation of two
characters from
Railroad John. More than 300 people
were touched by the creativity of these talented individuals, and inspired to
stop and think about words, about imagery and how we might transform our daily
world into a fascinating one filled with imagination.
New Friends Logo
Unveiled
The Friends of the Library
recently selected a new logo. A contest was held among library staff members,
and the winning design was selected by the Friends Board from staff submissions.
Youth Services staff member Gail
Hogan came up with the winning design (below) and will earn a
free vacation day and a $50 prize from the Friends. Jarvis Sims, Technical Services Manager for the
library system, completed the graphic design based upon Gail's
idea.
