Nan is known as the crazy woman of Nantucket, but as you get to know her, you realize she is a charming eccentric who chain smokes and bicycles around the island. At 65, she lives alone in a sprawling beach house. Her husband died 20 years earlier and her family is gone. With her funds dwindling and the possibility of losing her beloved house, Nan places an ad to rent rooms for the summer. In the beginning, as everyone makes their way to Nan’s estate, it is slowly filled with noise, laughter and tears. As the house comes alive again, Nan finds her family expanding. Her son comes home for the summer and then an unexpected visitor turns all their lives upside-down. The story deals with tangled relationships as it interweaves these disconnected lives.
